Fullerene-C60 (C60) is an allotrope of carbon that has a closed-cage structure and it is icosahedrally shaped with 60 sp2 hybridized carbons. It is majorly utilized in the development of novel materials for a wide range of energy based applications.

C60 is a nanomaterial that can be used in the fabrication of a variety of electrochemical devices which include solar cells, lithium ion batteries and photovoltaic cells. Fullerene-C60 belongs to the class of carbonaceous materials. It can be used for a variety of alternative energy applications, which include lithium-ion batteries, organic photovoltaic cells (OPV), heterojunction solar cells, polymeric photodetectors, photodiodes, and photocatalysis.
